The year 2021 was a wonderful, unexpected & roller-coaster year for the world and it was nothing less than that in the music scene globally, with songs popping out of nowhere on Tik Tok and going viral, dance trends, challenges, drama/controversy & award shows as well.

2021 IN REVIEW

The year 2021 was an intense year with a lot of unexpected mental health issues that lead to creation of more mental health awareness campaigns, movement & music, well the one thing that we can agree on that was also unexpected & relieving, were these amazing collabs from some of our favorite artistes from Nigeria & across the globe, connecting sounds, cultures & languages to create beautiful music that would help ease the stressing, keep us happy & also last for generations to come.

1. DRAKE FT TEMS - FOUNTAIN

The announcement of superstar artiste Drake's album "Certified Lover Boy" release date & features caused global craze as he raised the bar of music promotion promising it for weeks turn months, turn about a year which left them in hysteria for the drop, so when he set up billboards with artiste, description of them & lyrics across various countries globally fans were left in more shock waves to see the names on the project, and beautiful vocalist, songwriter & producer Tems was not left out as she featured on "Fountains". At the release of the project, "Fountains" Charted high along with the other releases which as well occupied the top 21 spots at "the billboard HOT 100" making her the first Nigerian Female artiste to chart or be featured on the "Billboard top 10" countdown for over 2 consecutive weeks.

2. WIZKID FT TEMS & JUSTIN BIEBER - ESSENCE(REMIX)

Following the massive success of "Essence" a track from the "Made in Lagos" album by arguably Africa's biggest musical act & artiste Wizkid, featuring Singer Extraordinaire Tems, charting high on "Billboard Top 10", being the most shazamed song in the US & other countries, going on tour & selling out shows across the world, in the midst of all the massive global acclaim they released a single "Essence Remix" that features superstar & arguably one of the greatest male singers of this time Justin Bieber which later appeared on the "Made in Lagos Deluxe" Album . This link up led to a smash hit from the jump as the release on impact instantly landed on major playlists, radio stations & countdowns across the globe. Some youtubers after listening, reviewed this track and said it's addictive like "crack coccaine" because of how good it sounds & feels to the ears, mind, body & soul.

3. TEMS FT BRENT FAIYAZ - FOUND

This track "Found" by Super Talented Singer, Songwriter & Producer Tems features sensational singer Brent Faiyaz AKA "Lost Kid" AKA "Sonder Boy" 1/3 of Trio Sonder. When this release was announced, I was at the lowest point in my life because i was dealing with heartbreak, situationships, family issues & being on the verge of suicide & this release meant so much to me as it was part of the beautiful & divine project "If Orange Was A Place" which I tell people "Saved My Life" & so I am forever grateful for this collaboration. I love you so much Tems Temilade Openiyi, Her manager Muyiwa Awoniyi, Brent Faiyaz & everybody involved in this project for bringing back the light that I once lost to never forget that I am worthy of better & greatness.

4. LOJAY & SARZ FT WIZKID - LV n ATTN

Producer Extraordinaire & Hitmaker Sarz AKA Sarz on the Beat who once in a while goes on a rampage season collaboration, went to the deepest steeps in the pits of musical talents and genius to work with spectacular singer Lojay to produce a 5- track EP titled "LV n ATTN" pronounced "love and attention". A stand out on this project is the track named after the title of the EP "LV n ATTN" which features Wizkid AKA Big Wiz AKA Machala who some people say "Finished Work(meaning - did outstandingly well)" as he sang as good as he always does & Lojay was no exception as his vocals serenaded the track so miraculously you would think he was a "church worship-singer", lol.

5. DaVIDO & ADEKUNLE GOLD - HIGH

This collaboration of phenomenal singer Adekunle Gold with hitmaker DaVido was unexpected, regardless it was nothing but spectacular & ecstatic as the vibes & feels of the track "High" literallyrepresents the feel of actually being high without a worry of the problems of the world. This link up led to a re-emegence of the Amapiano sound to the light which led to massive dance challenges on social media and of course especially on Tik Tok.

6. BURNA BOY FT POLO G - WANT IT ALL

Talking about a topic of people doubting, not believing & condescending on them while on the come up Superstar & Afrofusion crooner Burna Boy AKA Odogwu AKA African GIant & amazing Trapstar & singer Polo G AKA Polo Capalot linked up for this collaboration of a lifetime on this track merging African sound with Trap making beautiful melodies, charting high & trending on social media too, well "if Odogwu dey enter ya eye, Close am", lol.

7. FIREBOY DML FT ED SHEERAN - PERU(REMIX)

The original track "Peru" according to Magnificent singer Fireboy DML was inspired by enjoying moments, experiencing a new life & even more fame in new cities especially in San Francisco which was where he made the song at and that led to literally becoming a smash hit on impact, little did fans know that he was as well in town in the UK and eventually linked up with superstar British singer Ed Sheeran to make the remix. On impact as the remix was released fans of Fireboy DML merged with an even bigger fanbase of Ed sheeran to create waves of excitement as the song immediately started trending all over social media & was played on various platforms countless times because it was worth more than the hype.

8. TIWA SAVAGE FT BRANDY - SOMEBODY'S SON

Amazing Singer & Songwriter Tiwa Savage AKA "African Bad Girl" released a 5- track EP titled "Water & Garri" which features lots of great artistes on it and one of them featured is no-other-than Phenomenal singer Brandy on "Somebody's Son", a feel-good song about genuine love locating them at the right time. The collaboration between them sparked shock waves to the world as their vocals were so beautiful to listen to and a large amount of the female populace could relate to the narrative too. This song was trending all over social media especially Tik Tok as lots of ladies used the audio for dance challenges & also to get the attention of their "Somebody's Son" to find them & love them properly, it was also seen that sizzling hot superstar rapper Nicki Minaj commented on listening to it on her playlist every day.

9. CKAY FT ElGrandeToto - LOVE NWATITI(NORTH AFRICAN REMIX)

Following the success of his 2019 release "love nwatiti" on Tik Tok this year, sensational singer Ckay released a north african remix with ElGrandeToto to add more dry wood to the blaze of his music popping up on the radar, expanding his fanbase & reaching new horizons with his music. Ckay at the end of the year is most streamed Nigerian & African artiste of the year on all streaming platforms combined, has the most Tik Tok-ed song & as well a new song titled "Emiliana" which is nothing less than beautiful.
