The audio & video to this track which was directed by Burna in his mansion were released on May 13th 2022 which is popularly marked as “FRIDAY THE 13TH" because of widely acclaimed Hollywood horror movie named likewise. On impact after the release went live it peaked in Nigeria at Number 1 and on other top musical streaming platform charts globally.

Firstly, dive in and kindly listen/stream the track (LAST LAST - BURNA BOY) using the embed Spotify player below as you proceed to reading the article underneath:

The track begins with the additional vocals chanting the hook/intro “E don cast, last last, na everybody go chop breakfast” which in Nigerian pidgin literally means just the way everyone eats breakfast, likewise they will experience heartbreak, afterwards Burna cries out for shayo (alcoholic drink) twice, then the instrumentals and heavy bumpy beat that left me nodding left and right progressively kicked in.

In the first verse, Burna starts by saying he doesn’t have anything to discuss, because without any doubt he wins any competition by default and you will just have to bow for the results. Burna says he is an adult and he will not leave room to take any insult on his mind as he puts his life into his job, regardless he knows he is in trouble still because “She manipulate my love o!”. Burna goes on to say “I no holy and I no denge pose like Baba frio, My eye o don cry o” meaning he knows he has done some wrong things but he doesn’t pretend about it like most self-righteous people as he cries out about it, that’s why he needs Igbo (W**d) and Shayo (Alcoholic drink) in the chorus that drops subsequently after the first verse

“I need Igbo and shayo (Shayo)

I need Igbo and shayo (Shayo)

I need Igbo and shayo (Shayo)

I need Igbo and shayo (Shayo)

Shayo (shayo) shayo (shayo)

I need Igbo and shayo (Shayo)

I need Igbo and shayo (Shayo)

I need Igbo and shayo (Shayo)

Shayo (shayo) shayo (shayo shayo)”

In the second verse, Burna shows his lyricism, rhyming skills & flows as he talks about how he was in Port Harcourt when Soboma (Murdered citizen) was killed, meanwhile around that time he was trying to buy a Corolla (vehicle) and his feeling swung back and forth like Jangolova (swing), now he just crashed his Ferrari in Lekki saying

“Na small thing remain, could have been run-over,

My feelings still dey swing like jangolova,

Feelings still dey swing like Ti Ti Ti n ba ni ke juru, e juru”

which even though the meaning of the last line in Yoruba is unclear to me and the stutter seemed like a mistake however it turned out to be so sweet and catchy to his production team’s ears and so does it sound in mine too. Furthermore, he goes on singing and asking

“Omo why to’o ki nfe ni suru? Why you say I did nothing for you?”

even when he was willing to do anything for her, he continues asking this question again because of how he weary the circumstance made him feel. Burna hopefully says

“Maybe another time, maybe another life you will be my wife and we'll get it right”,

afterwards the chanted hook kicks in again

“E don cast, last last, na everybody go chop breakfast,

Have to say bye bye o, bye bye o to the love of my life,

My eye o don cry o”.

The track ends off with the chorus again and the instrumentals slowly fading out.

Last Last showed us a different side of BURNA BOY’s world, featuring him facing opposition, heartbreak & love/hate relationship issues in a very versatile sounding way with top notch delivery, beautiful instrumentals, hard bumpy beats making you dance as you listen, confidence over the roof, vocals to match, articulate lyricism to easily pass the message with clarity and especially with positive vibes despite the emotional trauma he faced which he talks about in the narrative of emotions and experiences in the song which is very relatable as the emotion of love and obviously heartbreaks are some of the most discussed and emphasized topics recently among humans. This is a very catchy song & as you continue to listen multiple times, it starts to get even more addictive, well keep streaming ;). I would like to say a Big Thank You to BURNA BOY, the producer and his amazing Team for creating and sharing this highly-spirited vulnerable Afrofusion track off his upcoming body of work.
